Lake District Photography

Back to the lakes

Sometimes it’s just nice to return to a place that you feel comfortable, enjoy the fresh air and take a well needed time out….the pictures reflect the calm of Keswick, which makes it a place of sanctuary (even when it rains the whole time)

I have visited the lakes many times and love the peace and calm, on this trip I decided to spend one morning hiking around the Keswick lake and enjoy the warm weather and get some fresh air and take in the views around Derwentwater.

Derwentwater is a 10min walk from Keswick town centre and you can walk the 8 miles around the lake or can take a lake cruise…. You can combine the 2 as there are 7 landing platforms around the lake if 8 miles is a bit much of a walk.

The Derwentwater Walk is a sign posted  trail which will take you on a scenic walk around Derwentwater, Queen of the Lakes. It is mainly flat and easy to manage paths, the walk passes through some woodlands for part of the journey but is in the main along the shores of the lake which does mean that you can feel confident you are heading in the correct direction.

There are plenty of places to stop for a picnic and there are a few stops for lunch but would make sure you have water and a snack.

The walk took a few hours but the sights and scenery was beautiful and plenty of spots to sit and take in the views of hills, water and life in and along the lake.

There are plenty of boats on the lake and the cruises are a must just so you can get the views from the water looking over the stunning Lake District park, much of it is looked after by the national trust.

Check out visit Keswick ( https://www.keswick.org/) and plan your journey and adventures in the lakes

pictures include Keswick as well as other towns, sights and lakes around Cumbria
