I love travelling and seeing new places, exploring the local food and culture whilst away, but I think it’s also important to have a break to relax and unwind and that was the main purpose of heading for a few days in Tenerife this June.
I wanted a place where I could switch off from everything, relax by the pool and have some sun and enjoy not having to do much!
We booked our holiday via British Airways (https://www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_gb/ ) who I find offer a great range of options for holidays at reasonable price points and the flexibility to pay off the holiday over a few months rather than in one hit. I’ve booked a few times with them and have never been disappointed with the quality and convenience of it all.
We chose to stay at a beautiful resort in Adeje, just 20 mins from the airport and close to the beach and local restaurants and shopping area.
The hotel was part of the Vinnci hotel group,
The Plantacion del Sur, a 5star hotel.

It had everything we needed from a selection of restaurants , bars and a number of swimming pools as well as a spa, gym and gardens to help us get into the that well deserved vacation mood.
We stayed in one of the Villas , which offered comfort and tranquility. They are located around the pools and offer a private garden with seating and sun loungers as well as an outdoor hydro massage pool so you don’t have to leave the villa to enjoy the glorious weather.
The rooms have a large bedroom and bathroom as well as a walk in wardrobe area to store everything out of the way, it’s like a mini apartment with plenty of space and comfort. It was perfect for complete isolation if you wanted a quiet day , room service can be delivered as and when required and a well stocked mini bar with food and drinks to enjoy.
We made the most of the restaurants in the hotel and can highly recommend a meal at the El Mercado grill restaurant, with views over the pool area and a great selection of cuisine to enjoy. There is also a buffet restaurant offering a wide variety of options around various themes each night, we went for the Bbq night and the food was fantastic with a choice of meats, salads and sides to cater to most people’s tastes and preferences.
If you want to get away from the hotel then a short walk from the resort was the beach ( probably around 5/10mins depending on your pace). Playa del Duque was a nice beach front with a selection of cafes, restaurants and shops. It was a laid back and chilled out area, not overly crowded but plenty of beach loungers and space if a day at the beach is your preferred option.
You can walk along the shoreline to a few shopping centres and further down into the port which is more built up and has water sports, theme bars and other activities if you want a bit of a buzz around you. We walked down one morning but if I’m honest I prefer the more relaxed and quiet areas but a pleasant walk nonetheless and a chance to see the shops and pick up a few things and enjoy a cool drink and watch the world go by.
If you want a little break and time to switch off and enjoy some good weather then this is the perfect place for you.
The staff and people we met on the trip were all really friendly and helpful without being too much and was a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. I think a break like this every now and then if the perfect tonic for a busy lifestyle and would highly recommend checking it out.
